I try to understand what makes greenhouse gases come out of soils.

Hi there! I'm a research scientist in Merritt Turetsky's lab at the University of Colorado Boulder. I'm interested in understanding what controls greenhouse gas production and consumption from natural and managed lands. My research focuses on the "big three" greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, but I have specific expertise in how soil microbes produce and consume nitrous oxide (N2O).

Nitrous oxide is a POWERFUL greenhouse gas - nearly 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide! While sometimes referred to as "laughing gas," nitrous oxide is no laughing matter! Check out my site to learn more!
